BAND OF THE DAY #121 - Avalanche City


Avalanche City is a folk music band that began with multi-instrumentalist Dave Baxter. The debut album “Our New Life Above The Ground” was written, conceived, produced, and recorded using an eclectic range of various instruments all played by Baxter himself. It took him a week to record the album in solitude within an old community hall in the New Zealand countryside.

What followed was nothing short of incredible, with single “Love Love Love” debuting at #1 on the New Zealand charts, despite little radio play, and the album became platinum purely through word of mouth and a free download. He decided then to assemble a group of musicians in order to recreate a full rendition of the album for live performances using instruments ranging from mandolin, ukulele, glockenspiel, to accordion.
