BAND OF THE DAY #129 - When Saints Go Machine

When Saints Go Machine are a Danish electro four-piece pop group from Copenhagen formed in 2007 after all growing up in the same neighbourhood. They started out making dance music, but quickly left four-four beats behind and started fusing electronics with pop melodies. They caused a local stir when Danish radio picked up on some tracks they had uploaded onto Myspace, resulting in their first ever gig at Vega, one of Copenhagen’s leading venues before going on to open the Roskilde Festival in 2010.

When Saints Go Machine are a complicated mix of influences. There’s dance music in there, for sure, but also post punk, some experimental electronica in the Aphex Twin mould, and, crucially, a healthy dose of pop. They’re a hard band to pin down, four young men doing things with electro pop that no one has done before.

Their album “Konkylie” was released last June on !K7 Records. Stream the brilliant “Kelly” above and Shlohmo’s remix of the track is definitely worth a listen.
