BAND OF THE DAY #139 - Dry The River

Dry The River are a genuine TGE favourite, having also played last year’s festival as part of a prosperous year which culminated in a sell out show in London’s Scala. Norwegian born singer-songwriter Peter Liddle formed the band in the summer of 2009 enlisting the help of a collection of friends from previous bands, most of them hardcore and post-punk, an influential element in their music that sets them apart from the majority of folk bands. Despite this the five-piece group does have all the hallmarks of the latest folk sensation: elemental name, beards, acoustic guitars, even a violinist. As well as lyrics that read like a Steinbeck novel and a sonic palette that sweeps from gentle to giant like an incoming storm.

Their "Weights & Measures" EP was released in November 2011, with the tracklisting including “Weights & Measures” as well as “Bible Belt’, a recording from an acoustic Watch Listen Tell session which can be seen below, way back when it was the first video I’d seen of the band and I was immediately charmed by the sheer quality of this performance. The band recorded their debut album with producer Peter Katis during the summer of 2011, set for release Monday March 5th 2012 which we’re really looking forward to hearing.

TGE are off to do a quick Q&A with the boys today, if you have any burning questions you’d like answered, get them in on our Facebook page before 3pm and the best one’s will be chosen for the interview!
